The inspirational journey of Iloilo radio icon Jenil C. Demorito

The Iloilo radio industry celebrates a proud moment as one of its most esteemed figures, Jenil C. Demorito, ascends to a key government position. Recently appointed as Assistant Secretary for Special Concerns at the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Demorito’s journey continues to be a testament to leadership and excellence.

Building on his illustrious media career, Demorito took his oath before DAR Secretary Conrado Estrella III in a ceremony witnessed by Undersecretary Jesry Palmares, former Mayor of Passi City. Prior to this, Demorito served as OIC-Director IV of the agency’s Public Assistance and Media Relations Service (PAMRS), showcasing his expertise in fostering communication and engagement.

A native of Calinog, Iloilo, Demorito is a proud alumnus of the West Visayas State University (WVSU) College of Communication, graduating with an AB Mass Communication degree as part of the Batch of ’84. His media journey began in the early 1990s as a radio anchorman for DYFM Bombo Radyo Iloilo. Rising through the ranks, he became a top executive at the network and later served as the Station Manager of Radio Mindanao Network’s DZXL 558 in Manila.

Known as a mentor to many of today’s leading broadcasters across Iloilo and Western Visayas, Demorito’s influence resonates far and wide. His guidance has shaped a generation of media professionals who credit him with their success.

In recognition of his new role, the WVSU College of Communication shared a heartfelt message on Facebook:
“WVSU College of Communication proudly congratulates our very own Mr. Jose Jenil Demorito, AB Mass Comm Batch ’84, on his significant appointment as Assistant Secretary for Special Concerns at the Department of Agrarian Reform. Such an impressive feat! Your WVSU-COC family is so proud of you.”

DAR Western Visayas personnel also expressed their pride and joy through a congratulatory post:

As Mr. Demorito steps into this pivotal role, he carries with him the admiration of his peers, mentees, and community. His journey—from a dedicated radio anchorman to a respected public servant—continues to inspire, symbolizing what dedication and leadership can achieve.
