Amid a trip to Iloilo, Atty. Anel Diaz, the first nominee from Pamilya Ko Partylist reacted to the latest OCTA Research survey placing wherein they were included in the Top 30, calling the news “exciting but not a reason to be complacent.”
โNgayong nasa depensa tayo, mas lalong kailangang magsipag. Protektahan natin ang meron tayo upang makamit ang minimithi,โ Diaz stated, emphasizing continued hard work over celebration.
During community visits in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo, constituents voiced concerns about solo parents not receiving their mandated benefits.
A proposed solution included a call for equal implementation of the Solo Parentsโ Welfare Act, suggesting that funding be directly handled by the national government through relevant agencies rather than relying on the varying capacities of local government units (LGUs).
โDapat nararamdaman ang benepisyo ng solo parents, mayaman man o mahirap ang LGU,โ Diaz said.
In Iloilo City, rising real property taxes have also been a pressing local issue. The nominee committed to exploring ways to ensure that tax increases are implemented gradually to lessen the burden on ordinary citizens.
On the issue of domestic partnerships โ particularly those involving live-in and LGBTQ+ couples โ Diaz expressed support for legal protections and fair rights.
โIf there is opposition from the Church or other groups, thatโs part of democracy. Ang paggawa ng batas ay nadadaan sa paliwanagan at debate,โ Diaz stressed, highlighting the importance of inclusive dialogue in shaping policies that benefit all citizens.
When asked what inspired his support to the said partylist, second nominee Miguel Carlos, shared his deep-rooted connection to the โLovablesโ sector โ a term used to refer to non-traditional family structures such as solo parents, LGBTQ+ couples, and blended families.
โI came from an extended family that includes solo parents and LGBTQ+ couples. Contrary to the notion that these families are โnot normal,โ Iโve seen firsthand how successful, loving, and stable they can be,โ Carlos said.
Carlos also believes that regardless of family structure, every Filipino family deserves respect and support.
