
Municipality of Pototan bags Iloilo’s Most PWD-friendly title
The Iloilo provincial government celebrated the 47th National Disability Rights Week by recognizing the innovation and best practices of local government units in advancing the welfare of persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The municipality of Pototan bagged the championship crown and received a cash prize of P50,000. The towns of New Lucena and Leganes won as first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively, with a cash prize of P30,000 and P20,000.
The awarding was led by Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office Acting Provincial Government Department Head Rani Melvi Cuarte, Social Welfare Officer IV and Persons with Disability Officer Designate Ann Rapunzel Ganzon, and PSWDO PWD Focal Person Ma. Christine Roa.
Ganzon highlighted the importance of the involvement of various stakeholders, particularly of the local chief executives, in pushing for initiatives that will ensure the protection of PWDs.
“To the seven municipalities that made it to the finals, saludo guid ako sa inyo. And to all the municipalities that participated in this year’s search, panginbulahan kag pagpasidungog para sa inyon tanan,” Ganzon said.
Cuarte emphasized the need for inclusive governance and the implementation of educational assistance for persons with disabilities. “We are reminded of our collective commitment to promote, protect, and fulfill the rights of persons with disabilities. This is more than just a celebration; it is a reaffirmation of our duty to build society where inclusion is not a privilege,” Cuarte said.
The PSWDO also recognized the finalist LGUs namely Leon, Concepcion, Sara, and Barotac Viejo.
The event emphasized the ongoing support for PWDs of the Iloilo provincial government through scholarships and other program promoting inclusivity. (Capitol News)
