The Iloilo Provincial Government turned over its Career Guidance Instruction Modules during the Career Guidance Advocacy “Pagbinag-binag: Thinking Through Career Options,” at Pavia National High School on February 13, 2026.

It was graced by Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., who made the initiative possible, as the principal author of the Republic Act No. 11206 or also known as the Secondary Schools Career Guidance and Counseling Act aims to boost the province’s educational system and empower students to choose their respective career paths in the future.

In his message, Defensor stressed the importance of career guidance, highlighting its role in helping students to choose their careers that align with the needs of the economy and the government.

“Our career guidance counseling is very important… we wrote this to take care of the relevant part—effective, relevant, transformative. Why relevant? Because our schools, our educational system—primary, secondary, college tertiary—it should cater to the needs of the economy and the government,” Defensor said.

Defensor also emphasized that the education system should prepare students, stressing the development of the country’s human resources.

“If our schools and education system does not make human resources of the country, we will not develop,” he stressed.

The event was also attended by the Department of Education (DepEd) VI Regional Director Cristito Eco, Schools Division Superintendent – Iloilo OIC Ruby Therese Almencion, Pavia Mayor Laurence Anthony Gorriceta, Pavia National High School Principal IV Dr. Lourdes Montefrio, District Supervisor Dr. Melanie Villalon, module writers, career guidance counselors, teachers from across Iloilo Province, among others.
