Planned ICCC expansion to benefit more students
More indigent but deserving Ilonggo students are expected to benefit from the expansion of Iloilo City Community College (ICCC) at Fort San Pedro, a major initiative that underscores the city government’s strong commitment to accessible and quality education.
The expansion will allow ICCC to introduce in-demand and future-ready academic programs such as Information Technology, Hotel and Restaurant Management, and other industry-aligned courses that respond to real employment opportunities.
Mayor Raisa Treñas emphasized that the project represents a long-term commitment to Ilonggo youth.
“This project is truly the reason why we can continue and further expand free tuition and miscellaneous fees for our poor yet deserving students. Without this, many of them would have no other choice but to stop going to school,” the city mayor underscored.
“ICCC is one of only three community colleges in Western Visayas that receive CHED support, and this support is strictly conditional on the implementation of the expansion. If this (expansion) is not realized, CHED’s grant and the free tuition subsidy will stop, which will directly affect our students,” she added.
To support the initiative, the city entered into a loan agreement with the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), which will help sustain the delivery of free education to qualified city residents.
The expansion is also crucial in strengthening ICCC’s institutional capacity and ensuring continued compliance with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) accreditation requirements.
Currently, ICCC serves more than 1,300 students enrolled in four academic programs at its original Molo campus.
The project includes the construction of new academic buildings, classrooms, a library, computer laboratories, a clinic, administrative offices, and a covered gymnasium. These facilities aim to provide a safe, modern, and dignified learning environment for students.
The expansion project will deliver new academic buildings, classrooms, a library, computer laboratories, a clinic, administrative offices, and a covered gym – creating a safe, modern, and dignified learning environment that our students truly deserve.
“This project not only about school expansion. This involves expansion of opportunities and the future of the Ilonggo youth and our city,” Mayor Treñas stressed. (Iloilo City PIO)
