DPWH chief inspects ongoing works at the Aganan and Buhang flyovers

By Mary Joy Cavañas

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon, revisited the Buhang Flyover in Jaro District in Iloilo City, and Aganan Flyover in municipality of Pavia on April 15, 2026.

These infrastructures were both part of the Build Build Build program of the Duterte Administration and were later adopted under the Marcos administration’s Build Better More program.

Constructed in 2020, the ₱315 million Buhang Flyover spanned around  340 linear meters and was opened in 2026. The project was reported to have structural damage such as cracks and observation of cement debris falling during the initial visit of Dizon in January 2026, which is also unsafe for the motorists passing by.

Additionally, Dizon also revisited the ₱802 million Aganan Flyover that was constructed in 2020—with a span of 436.90 linear meters—as it remained unfinished for several years in which it was halted in 2022 due to concerns in terms of stability.

During a media interview, Dizon called for a sense of urgency for these infrastructures to be completed without compromising the safety, stressing that people have waited for these projects to be used.

During his revisit, he was informed that the northbound lane of Aganan Flyover is expected to be completed around March or April 2027 which he ordered to be fast-tracked, while Buhang Flyover’s completed rehabilitation is assured to be done around May or the end of April 2026.

Meanwhile, he also visited some infrastructure projects in Iloilo City, including the ongoing West Visayas State University’s College of Law Building which is expected to be completed this month.

Along with Mayor Raisa Treñas, they also visited the unfinished road construction in Molo District that has been undone for almost two years, in which he ordered it to be finished within three months as it has been giving inconvenience to the residents staying in the area.
