Sustained ops, community cooperation drive crime reduction in WV

Intensified police visibility, continuous anti-crime operations, and strengthened community cooperation have led to a significant drop in crime incidents across Western Visayas, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) under Acting Regional Director PBGen. Randulf T. Tuaño.
From May 25–31 to June 1–7, 2026, PRO6 recorded a 66.66% overall reduction in the eight focus crimes, with cases falling from 33 to just 11. This marked decline underscores the effectiveness of proactive law enforcement and closer coordination with communities in improving police response and deterring crime in identified areas of concern.
Key Gains in Crime Reduction
* Homicide and motorcycle carnapping: Zero incidents, reflecting a 100% decrease.
* Physical injury: Down by 90.9%, from 11 to 1 case.
* Murder: Dropped by 80%, from 5 to 1 case.
* Theft: Reduced by 71.42%, from 7 to 2 cases.
* Violations of special laws: Fell by 33.51%, from 179 to 119 incidents.
Authorities attributed these improvements to consistent police presence and community vigilance, which together strengthened deterrence and enhanced peace and order across the region.

“These gains clearly reflect the impact of sustained police presence in our communities. These are not just numbers on paper, but the outcome of the collective efforts of our police officers and the public working together,” PBGen. Tuaño said.
He emphasized that PRO6 will continue to balance intensified operations with community engagement to sustain peace and order.
