Brigadier General Michael G. Samson, Commander of the Army’s 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division, was promoted to Major General on March 17, 2025.

The Commanding General of the Philippine Army, Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido, bestowed the new rank upon the 3ID Commander and other top Army officials during a ceremony held at the VIP Lounge, Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila.

Newly promoted Major General Samson assumed command of the 3ID last January 31, 2025, replacing Major General Marion R. Sison.

A proud Negrense, MGen. Samson previously commanded the 301st Infantry Brigade and served as assistant commander of the 3ID. He is known for his significant accomplishments during his time as 301st Infantry Brigade Commander in Panay Island.

During his stint as 301st Infantry Brigade Commander, the Brigade initiated a total of 53 combat engagements against the New People’s Army, resulting in the neutralization of 26 high-value Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) personalities from the Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay (KR-P).

Additionally, 62 CTG members were arrested/apprehended/surrendered/captured; 59 high-powered firearms, 19 low-powered firearms, and 8 explosive components/anti-personnel mines were seized; and voluminous CTG documents, gadgets, and other belongings were recovered, yielding valuable intelligence that further supported successful government operations. These combat achievements led to the successful dismantling of the KR-Panay’s guerilla fronts, including Southern Panay and Central Fronts.
